Manufacturers cannot restrict access to OBD ports. Unfortunately, this comes with a down fall. Criminals also know this and this is the most popular way in which vehicles are stolen. Criminals do this by gaining access to your OBD port and programme a key to then fool your vehicle in thinking your key is present and they drive off with your pride and joy! On-Board Diagnostics (OBD) is a standard system that allows your vehicle computer to communicate with external electronic devices. Popular devices are OBD Scanners or OBD scan tools and they give the vehicle the ability to self-diagnose and send reports to these devices.
